Music in the Park welcomes Olympia Jazz Senators!

The Olympia Jazz Senators are comprised of local music teachers, band directors, retired/active duty military members and professional musicians. Their members are dedicated to preserving the root and heritage of Big Band jazz as well as generating enthusiasm among younger musicians. They’ve established a reputation for musical excellence in the 10+ years since the band was formed.

Together for over six years with the same four veteran South Sound musicians, Ko Ko Jo (formerly known as Freckles Brown) is one of the most active bands in the Olympia area. With solid vocals and well-balanced instrumentation they perform a wide variety of energetic rock and country covers as well as their own original compositions that have been well received on their two CD releases, Miles and Miles and Delphi Road.

Due to rain, the performance by the Tacoma Concert Band has been moved to the Washington Center for the Performing Arts located just ½ block away from Sylvester Park (512 Washington St. SE). The Tacoma Concert Band will still perform from 7:00-8:00pm and concert admission remains FREE to the public!

***Remember parking is free after 5:00pm in downtown Olympia!***

Tacoma Concert Band

The Tacoma Concert Band, founded in 1981 by its Music Director Robert Musser, is recognized internationally for its excellence. The members include school band directors, other music educators, and talented musicians active in or retired from a variety of professions. The band has received many prestigious awards, and sponsors and annual Student Solo Contest. The band has commissioned and premiered new works for band and has released seven recordings.

The Brown Edition evolved out of the cream of the Olympia jazz and funk scene to become the “Best Band in Olympia” as awarded by The Weekly Volcano two years running. The group’s original compositions, a finely woven blend of vocal and instrumental grooves, are instantly appealing, yet technically complex.

Fans and music lovers compare Carrie Cunningham to Linda Ronstadt, Martina McBride, Faith Hill and Patsy Cline. Carrie is not only a ‘natural’ singer/songwriter, but has established herself within the community through her incredible efforts of volunteerism with a number of organizations.

The Blues Power Revue is a tribute band that presents a dynamite stage show consisting of all the hits and humor that made the one and only Blues Brothers so permanently engrained in American culture. Impersonators of Jake & Elwood are backed by a powerful 7-piece band of seasoned, professional musicians.
